My last post of the year is a very brief one listing my Answers.com articles for December (I'm only required to write five per month at this point but can write up to ten if I want to). I continue to welcome your suggestions for future articles, particularly low-carb recipes that photograph well. Please use the Contact page or email me at franziska@lowcarbdietitian.com.
I want to thank all of my readers: the brand-new ones, those who have been here since the beginning, and everyone in between. I appreciate your continued support and feedback more than you can imagine. In fact, it's what keeps me going when I start worrying about the possible repercussions for speaking out so boldly about very-low-carb ketogenic diets, saturated fat, and other controversial issues. I've never thought of myself as a risk taker, but I guess when you're passionate about something and believe you're right, you find yourself rising to the occasion. I think 2014 is going to be a great year for carbohydrate restriction -- exciting times ahead! Wishing all of my readers and their families a very happy and healthy new year! Thanks for commenting and alerting me of Carrie's remarks, Galina. No, simply substituting refined carbs with the same portion sizes of low-GI foods rarely results in weight loss and good blood glucose control in those with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, or diabetes. I'll write more on this, either here or possibly an Answers column.

I just saw the article on CNN http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2014/01/02/shingles-may-increase-stroke-heart-attack-risk/comment-page-1/#comment-749927 about what they think was the connection between shingles and cardiovascular events, while it is more probably both conditions were associated with increased insulin resistance and poor immunity, unstable blood sugar and susceptibility to insult and infarct as a result. It is all over evening news right now. Could you comment on current "health news" on regular basis? It is often so stupid, I can't believe my eyes. CNN could provide you with almost endless ideas what to write about.

Great ideas, Galina! Thanks so much for sharing them with me. Writing about my take on current health news would need to be a blog topic, as Answers.com doesn't want any content that would appear dated six months or so down the line. But overall improvement in health and immunity as a result of LC could work. Thanks again.

Just a brief word to say that I thought the article 'Five Ways to stay motivated on a low carb diet' may well come in useful to those that struggle. I especially liked the 'focus on foods you can eat'. It helps to see the great choice of foods that are available, think of the positive and not the negative - always preferable.
